Galvanized Steel Plant Workplace Safety Tips

Galvanized Steel Plant Workplace Safety Tips

  • 2022/10/25

Employee safety has always been a top priority at all five of our facilities. Accidents happen from time to time, and unfortunately, sometimes you can't avoid them. However, if you take a little extra time to develop some preventive measures and put them in place, you can reduce the risk of employee injury.

Here are seven workplace safety tips to help galvanized steel coil suppliers and your employees stay safe at work.

Proper use of equipment and machinery

Misuse of these tools or equipment is a common cause of workplace injuries. Always follow guidelines set around operating the specific device or machine you are using. Also, be sure to clean or inspect the machine regularly to ensure it is functioning properly.

Wear personal protective equipment

When using the device, make sure you are wearing the correct PPE. Before using PPE, check it to make sure it is not damaged. Wearing personal protective equipment can significantly reduce the chance of injury.

Inform managers or supervisors of unsafe working conditions

Never be afraid to let supervisors know that there is a potential threat to employee safety in the workplace. From there, they will decide how best to handle the situation.

Keep the emergency exit open

In an emergency, make sure to remove any debris or objects that may block the emergency exit.

Prevent objects from falling

To avoid falling objects, use protective devices such as nets, toe rails, and toe boards. Also, stack the boxes directly on top and bottom and place heavier items on the bottom shelf. Make sure to place objects outside the aisle and work area.

Use correct posture when lifting weights

Back injuries are one of the most common workplace injuries, due to incorrect posture when lifting large or heavy objects. Remember, always lift with your legs and never with your back. Whenever you pick up an item, keep your back straight and pick it up with your legs, without twisting or bending over.

Avoid the use of harmful chemicals

Some acids and bases can be used to clean the material before galvanizing. Make sure you wear appropriate PPE if you are using something more harmful. After using the chemical, rinse off any areas that may be exposed.
