What is coil slitting

Strip slitting is a coil processing service in which the main coil is fed into the machine and then cut to the length and width required by the specification. Coil slitting is a process of cutting wide coils of steel, aluminum, copper, brass and other metals into narrow coils with a metal coil slitting machine or a slitting machine. While it may seem that cutting wide material into narrower parts is a normal process, producing metal coils with optimum precision actually does require a lot of considerations and machining techniques.

Metal coils are often found in industry as part of components, for example in wires on EDMs, or in everyday products. These metal coils come in a wide range of sizes and widths, and both thin and thick coils require consistent and smooth edges so that they won't cause failure when used in other applications.

In order to achieve accurate cutting in the coil slitting process, various factors such as knife clearance, knife sharpness, machine maintenance, burrs, edge waves, knife marks, arcs or crossbows should be carefully considered or avoided to ensure that when manufacturing the product achieve the desired effect.
