Cold rolled non grain oriented steel is often abbreviated to CRNGO. It usually has a silicon level of 2 to 3.5% and has similar magnetic properties in all directions, i.e., it is isotropic. Mainly used in rotating equipment, for example, electric motors, generators and over frequency and high-frequency converters.

ASTM A240 defines three (3) sub categories of Type 409 stainless steel; UNS S40910, UNS S40920 and UNS S40930. Each of these designations has a slightly different Ti or Nb stabilization requirement. Each of these compositions can be supplied as UNS S40900 unless the purchaser specifically identifies a specific composition. It is produced with enhanced formability characteristics known as “High Performance” or “Ultra Form” in the industry.

Galvanized steel is a hot-dipped coated metal that provides customers with better resistance to corrosive environments. To create galvanized steel, cold rolled steel is submerged into a molten zinc bath, known as the hot-dip process (galvanization can also be achieved through continuous galvanizing). When the material is removed from the zinc bath and cooled a reaction to the oxygen in the air occurs. The reaction causes the zinc coating to become part of the steel creating the well-recognized spangled finish.

The zinc then bonds to the iron particles within the steel sheet and forms a protective layer on both sides. Hot-Dipping is a process that helps protect metal materials such as steel sheets from corrosion caused by potential exposure to extreme environments. This is achieved through multiple processing types and it protects materials over a long time from degrading whilst maintaining their original properties unaltered.
